Hardy and evergreen, this Japanese honeysuckle has masses of fantastically fragrant, tubular, white flowers maturing to yellow from April to September and this changing colour can give it a beautiful two-tone appearance. The flowers fade to golden-yellow, followed in hot summers by small, purple-blac-k berries which the birds enjoy. This long flowering honeysuckle is easy to grow and the attractive fresh greeen foliage provides all-year cover for a pergola, arch or a boundary wall. The plant is happy in sun or partial shade. This climbing plant looks stunning when planted alongside Clematis Polish Spirit or Clematis Gypsy Queen, alternatively try planting this fragrant honeysuckle with Buddleja Nanho Purple. Ancient folklore believes that if a honeysuckle climbing plant grows around the entrance to the home it prevents goblins and witches from entering, and is said to bring good fortune. In many parts of the world honeysuckles have often been a symbol of affection and devotion. In Victorian times, however, young ladies were forbidden from selecting honeysuckles to use as cut flowers because they were considered to have too luscioius a scent which would cause them to have dreams which were far too risqué!
